John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
En wat staat vandaag op nr. 7?
Dat is een liedje van John Lennon geworden, hij is geboren in Liverpool in 1940 om vervolgens veertig jaar later in New York te worden doodgeschoten.
En toevallig gaat dit kerstlied over het beëindigen van de oorlog wereldwijd en niet alleen ten tijde van kerstmis. En hij is juist door geweld om het leven gekomen, hoe wreed kan het lot zijn?.
John was de oprichter van de Liverpoolse groep The Quarrymen, die later bekend werd als The Beatles die een grote invloed op de popmuziek zou hebben. Hij was ook altijd erg controversieel in zijn werk als vredesactivist, artiest en auteur en dat heeft hem later het leven gekost.
Maar een ding is zeker, liedjes schrijven (en zeker met gevoel) kon hij als geen ander daar getuigt dit kerstlied van, een lied dat mij enorm is bijgebleven sinds 1971.
